Kristallnacht

The virtual Holocaust Memorial to the victims of Kristallnacht is based on a sculpture by Marika Somogyi, a child survivor of the Shoah. On the “Night of Broken Glass” (November 9 and 10, 1938) gangs of Nazi youth roamed through Jewish neighborhoods throughout Germany breaking windows of Jewish businesses and homes, burning synagogues and looting. On Kristallnacht, in all,101 synagogues and almost 7,500 Jewish businesses were destroyed, and 26,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps.
