Joseph Suss Oppenheimer with gallows
Text reads: "Who of great lords favor abused by evil wrath / As the cheeky Jud Süss Oppenheimer did, / Whom avarice and arrogance, even taken pleasure, / As Haman last came to the gallows. Engraving of 1738.
Another medal, shown in figure 17, depicts on the obverse a bust of Oppenheimer, similar to that on figure 15. On the reverse can be seen two portrayals of Oppenheimer’s life. On the top section he is shown being drawn gloriously on an elegant four-horse chariot, while on the section below, he is being carted off to his death unceremoniously on a horse-drawn wagon.
